Avis provides a wide range of optional protection plans that deliver customized coverage based on each renter's needs. Each plan offers peace of mind when you're out on the road.
Protection options include*:
Loss Damage Waiver (LDW)
LDW helps reduce your financial liability for loss or damage to the Avis car as long as you comply with Avis rental agreement terms. Cost varies by location, car group and rate. If you have rental car coverage through your personal insurance or charge card, LDW offers maximum protection while your personal insurance or charge card may contain a deductible.
Personal Accident Insurance (PAI)
PAI provides accidental death benefits and emergency medical expense benefits to the renter and all passengers in the Avis car. Renters are covered 24 hours a day during the rental. Passengers are covered while in the car.
- $175,000 accidental death coverage (renter) and $17,500 accidental death coverage (passengers)
- $2,500 medical coverage for injuries due to an accident
- $250 for ambulance expenses
In New York, renters are covered for the following:
- $175,000 accidental death
- $3,500 medical coverage for injuries due to an accident
- $250 for ambulance expenses
Personal Accident Insurance Plus (PAI-Plus)
PAI-Plus meets the needs of renters who require extended amounts of insurance coverage (i.e.: international visitors). Renters are covered 24 hours a day during the rental. Passengers are covered while in the car.
- $250,000 accidental death coverage (renter) and $125,000 accidental death coverage (passengers)
- $2,500 medical coverage for injuries due to an accident
- $250 for ambulance expenses
Personal Effects Protection (PEP)
Personal Effects Protection insures the personal belongings of the renter and any immediate family members traveling with the renter.
- Maximum coverage for each covered individual is $600
- Maximum coverage for all covered individuals in the rental vehicle is $1,800
New York: Maximum coverage is $500 per claim, with a maximum coverage for individuals of $1,500.
Additional Liability Insurance (ALI)
Renter may purchase Additional Liability Insurance (ALI) at the time of rental. ALI provides additional protection for bodily injury, death or property damage, and increases the limits to $1,000,000. When ALI is purchased, Avis will always provide the Financial Responsibility Limits (FRL) on a primary basis.
The renter must initial the acceptance boxes on the Avis Rental Agreement and pay an additional per-day charge as shown on the Rental Agreement to elect an optional protection.
